Hot Natured

Hot Natured aka Jamie Jones aka one of the worlds best ever dance artists. I’m kicking myself for not picking up on this track much, much earlier, but these things happen, right? Also, if you’re new to Jamie, be sure to check out his album “Don’t You Remember The Future.” Easily one of the very best albums of 2009.

Sebo K & Metro

Yes, I know, this track is six months old. BUT – this song is six months old and still sounds fresh and amazing to me. I was just relistening to this and realised how great it is, so I figured it had to be posted. When the horns come in and the song breaks in the original mix is one of the most enjoyable things ever.

Bleepy as, mate

Dark-ish techno, not far off minimal, actually. Pretty sure everyone loves that, right?

For the Jazz fans?

It’s all about horns these days. Back in the 40’s your grandparents loved Jazz, and now in the 21st century it’s making a comeback, but this time with a kick drum. That’s right, so tell your grandparents to get back on the dancefloor and start doing the Foxtrot all over again.

Check out these tracks while I get my Zoot Suit on.

Moderat / Booka Shade

Better late then never. This blogging break has really caught up with me. It’s not like I’ll post about everything I missed in the last two months, but this one is worth it, no doubt. Booka Shade remix Moderat and it’s like someone is saying to them, ‘Hi Techno, this is my friend, Deep House.’ It’s delightful stuff.

Henrik Schwarz

Well well, another day, another German. Henrik Schwarz makes awesome house music with quite  heavy jazz  and soul influences. His music plays out amazingly smoothly, sounding free-flowing and almost as if it was improvised.  Schwarz is most notably known for his remix of Who Is He by Bill Withers, which has become a staple in way too many club sets. Along with this, he made an amazing compilation for the DJ Kicks series, back in 2006, which is 23 tracks of pure bliss. If you’re in Melbourne, he’s playing with Chateau Flight at Roxanne Parlour this Saturday. Along with support from Melbourne favourites, Aram Chapers, Ant J. Steep and Lewie Day, it’s sure to be one of the best gigs of the year.

Motor City Drum Ensemble

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Well well, lookit this, after a couple months in hiding I’m back in business and ready to get this thing going again. Expect regular posts from moi, and hopefully another contributor or two, if I feel like expanding this. There were many reasons to stop; mainly not actually being able to use a computer and find time to blog. My secondary excuse would be something about how music has been awful lately.. or so I might think.

For now it’s time to do a bit of recapping, so first up is one of the greatest musicians ever.

Motor City Drum Ensemble (aka Danilo Plessow) is a producer from Germany. Wait, scratch that.. he is the BEST producer ever born of Germany. Sorry, Boys Noize fans. His music mostly ranges from deep-house to disco, and with a slew of remixes, as well as his massively-acclaimed Raw Cuts series, it ain’t hard to see why he’s getting so much attention (he’s kind of a babe too.. ahem). I saw him play at Sorry Grandma last friday for what many people said was the absolute best gig of the year. If you’re not into this guy know, take a listen and I guarantee you will be.

Mowgli

mowgli

Mowgli is one of those artists who has tried pretty much every style there is. Starting with hip-hop at an early age, progressing to big beat, drum & bass, breaks, etc. and then moving on to and settling down with house. Even today, so much of his work differs greatly, some stuff breaking into techno, downtempo stuff, even minimal-esque beats. That being said, his house side has always been my favourite and it’s what I’ll generally come back for every time.

He’s just released his Nu Skool EP, which is out now on Beatport, Juno, etc., so make sure you get your hands on it. Here is the b-side off that EP, which is, in my opinion, the best on the whole release. I’ve been playing this on repeat for the last month, and now that it’s out I’m so happy to share it with you all.

Minimalistic

This is the first post I’ve ever done about minimal and tech stuff. Not surprising, given that about 90% of dance music blogs invest the most interest in electro, house, indie-dance, remixery, mashups and blah blah blah. Honestly, I like minimal probably more than any other kind of dance music, but I’m reluctant to post anything about it because it gets such a small amount of attention in this ‘indiecentric’ world. Give a listen to these, some of my favourite minimal works, you might enjoy them even if your tastes don’t run that way.

Kiki – Good Voodoo

Santos – Hold Home

Alex Celler – La Palma

Pitto – Feelin’ (Dub Mix)

Joris Voorn – Sweep The Floor

Maskio – Human Jungle (Santos Re-Edit)

Kid Kaio & Lucky Charmes – This Sound Is

Fred Trumpet – Retteketet feat. Ted Clarinet

Analog People In A Digital World – Rose Rouge

The Twelves – The Twelfth Hour

TwelfthHour

The Twelves have hit us with a one hour mix. After their growing success, bringing out remix after remix, every time working with bigger artists, as well as teasing us with some of their own work, they’ve become one of the biggest names on the internet and indeed, in real life. To top it all off, their debut album is coming out in January 2010, and it’ll surely blow us all away. In the meantime, check out the mix, sprinkled with just the right amount of indie-pop and dancy beats to keep you content for multiple listens.
